Stark becomes the first European to win the U.S. Women’s Open since 2006

ERIN, Wis. (June 1, 2025) – For just the sixth time in LPGA Tour history, a Swede has won a major championship. Maja Stark earns her second career victory and first major championship title since joining the Tour in 2022.

With her win at the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally, Stark earned 60 points toward the 2025 Rolex ANNIKA Major Award.

Stark entered the final round at Erin Hills Golf Course with a one stroke lead over Julia Lopez Ramirez, eventually growing it to three strokes over the rest of the field coming down the stretch. Maja Stark becomes the third player from Sweden to win a U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally and the first since Annika Sorenstam won in 2006. She is just the sixth Swede to win a major championship on the LPGA Tour joining Sorenstam (10 major championships), Anna Nordqvist (three major championships), Pernilla Lindberg, Helen Alfredsson and Liselotte Neumann.

The Rolex ANNIKA Major Award recognizes the player who, during the current LPGA Tour season, has the most outstanding record in all five major championships. Points will be awarded at all five major championships to competitors who finish among the top 10 and ties. In order to earn the award by year’s end, a player must win at least one of the five major titles.

The winner of the Rolex ANNIKA Major Award will be announced following the conclusion of the AIG Women’s Open and will be honored in November at the Rolex LPGA Awards at the CME Group Tour Championship.
