People’s Republic of China native Menghan Li made the 16th hole-in-one of the 2025 LPGA Tour season on Thursday at the Buick LPGA Shanghai.

The 16-year-old amateur is in the field after being one of the 15 athletes selected to compete by the China Golf Association and dunked her tee shot on the par-3 11th hole at Qizhong Garden Golf Club in round one, doing so from 142 yards with her 8-iron.

“This is my third hole-in-one in my career, whole career, but it is the very first one in a real golf tournament,” said Li. “At that moment, I felt thrilled and very excited because that was my first hole in a real golf tournament, and we celebrated together with the same group. We were happy about it.”

“I saw it in the hole. I was right beside it and happy. We hug each other with my caddie, with my coach, with my girls in the same group because I saw it on the tee and saw the ball just roll in.”

Li’s ace is the first hole-in-one to be made in an LPGA Tour tournament since Ariya Jutanugarn aced the 16th hole at TPC Boston during the final round of the FM Championship in August.

The amateur’s hole out at the Buick LPGA Shanghai will see another $20,000 donation made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by CME Group as part of their CME Group Cares Challenge – Score 1 for St. Jude campaign. The Challenge is a season-long giving program that turns aces into donations that support childhood cancer treatment and research, and the 2025 donation total is now at $320,000.

Li finished with a 2-under 70 in the first round, having three bogeys and three birdies on her scorecard in addition to her hole-in-one on No. 11. She will begin the second round six shots behind 18-hole leader Arpichaya Yubol, who opened with a 64 in China.

This is Li’s second consecutive year competing in the Buick LPGA Shanghai, and she was recognized as the low amateur in her tournament debut in 2024, finishing in a tie for 63rd last year at Qizhong Garden Golf Club at just 15 years old.
