It was on this date in 2013 that Republic of Korea native Inbee Park ascended to No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings for the first time in her career.

She claimed the top position in the standings two weeks after winning the 2013 Kraft Nabisco Championship, now known as The Chevron Championship, when it was still held at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She beat her fellow countrywoman So Yeon Ryu by four strokes that week to win her second career major title and earn the first of three major championship victories that she collected that year.

Park won a total of six times during the 2013 season, and in addition to moving to the top spot in the Rolex Rankings, she was also named the Rolex Player of the Year, won the Money Title and was recognized by the Golf Writers Association of America as their Female Player of the Year in 2013.

Park was the second Korean in the history of the Rolex Rankings to move to the No. 1 spot, joining Jiyai Shin, and is one of five Koreans to have been recognized as the best player in the world since the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings were created in 2006, as along with Park and Shin, Jin Young Ko, Sung Hyun Park and So Yeon Ryu were also No. 1 at some point throughout their careers.

The 21-time LPGA Tour winner spent a total of 106 career weeks as No. 1, the fifth-most of all time. She is an Olympic gold medalist, a two-time Vary Trophy honoree and a Rolex ANNIKA Major Award winner.
