Patty Berg won her 15th and final major championship on June 22, 1958, at the Women’s Western Open. That year’s edition of the major tournament was held at Kahkwa Country Club in Erie, Pa., and saw Berg beat Beverly Hanson en route to her seventh Women’s Western Open victory.

Berg’s 15 major titles are the most won by any player in the history of the LPGA Tour, with Mickey Wright trailing her by two with 13. In addition to her seven Women’s Western Opens, Berg has seven Titleholders Championships on her LPGA resume (1937, 1938, 1939, 1948, 1953, 1955 and 1957) and won the U.S. Women’s Open in 1946 at Spokane Country Club in Washington.

The Minnesota native captured a total of 60 victories on the LPGA Tour, picking up her last win in 1962 at the Muskogee Civitan Open, and those 60 titles are tied for fourth-most of all time alongside Berg’s fellow LPGA Founder Louise Suggs.

She is both an LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member and won the Vare Trophy three times, doing so in 1953, 1955 and 1956. Berg was recognized with the 1963 Bob Jones Award and was given the Commissioner’s Award in 2000 by the LPGA. She is also a member of the LPGA Professionals Hall of Fame and the PGA of America Hall of Fame.

Berg passed away on September 10, 2006, but is still considered to be one of the LPGA’s most recognizable names.
