The JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro is on deck this week for the LPGA Tour’s top talent, but this year, the staple event in the Los Angeles area is taking place at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif. Even with a venue change, several of the world’s best players are still competing, including the likes of Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda, four-time LPGA Tour winner Jeeno Thitikul and two-time major champion and UCLA alum Lilia Vu. However, outside of all that star power, there are still a few other athletes in the field at El Cab who have more than a good chance to collect the 2025 JM Eagle LA Championship title when looking at their statistical performances so far this season and their past successes at LA golf courses. Here are three of those players to be watching this week as they tee it up just down the road from the bright lights of Hollywood.

Haeran Ryu

Even though the 2025 LPGA Tour season marks just her third year competing as an LPGA Tour member, Haeran Ryu has proven time and again that she more than belongs among the world’s best female golfers. Having joined the organization in 2023, the Republic of Korea native has earned two victories so far in her career, winning the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G as a rookie, a victory that helped her earn 2023 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year honors, and then defeating former Rolex Rankings No. 1 Jin Young Ko in a playoff at the inaugural FM Championship last August.

She is currently ranked ninth in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and is in the top 15 of three major strokes gained categories so far this season, according to KPMG Performance Insights, including strokes gained tee to green (7, +1.76), strokes gained approach (8, +1.04) and strokes gained off the tee (13, +0.69). In terms of her three prior starts in this tournament, Ryu has a pretty solid record in the JM Eagle LA Championship, earning two T6 or better results after missing the cut in her event debut in 2018. She tied for sixth as a rookie in 2023 with a four-day total of 7-under, and Ryu then finished solo third in 2024 after posting a 72-hole score of 6-under par, a week-long effort that was highlighted by a 66 in the opening round.

In her five tournaments ahead of this week in Los Angeles, the 24-year-old hasn’t finished worse than the T18 result she recorded at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore, having tied for 14th at both the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and the Honda LPGA Thailand and tied for 17th at the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass and the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards. Like most athletes in the field this week, Ryu doesn’t appear to have played El Caballero Country Club at all in the past, but her form both in this event and throughout the early part of the 2025 season point to her likely having some success this week at the JM Eagle LA Championship.

Hannah Green

While she isn’t the clear favorite this week likely because of the venue change for the 2025 edition of the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro, it’s hard to ignore Hannah Green whenever she tees it up in the Los Angeles area. The Australian has won the last two editions of this event that were held at Wilshire Country Club, doing so in a playoff in 2023 and in regulation in 2024, making her a clear contender for the title once again in 2025 even though this year’s playing will be held at an unfamiliar venue, El Caballero Country Club.

This is her fifth tournament of the 2025 season, and in her four previous starts, Green has been fairly consistent, collecting three top-20 results in her first three events of the year, including a T20 showing at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, a tie for fourth that came at the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands and a tie for seventh that she earned in her title defense at the HSBC Women’s World Championship.

Statistically, Green is only ranked inside the top 20 of one major strokes gained category so far this year, looking at data provided by KPMG Performance Insights, currently sitting at 18th in strokes gained putting (+0.84), something that should really help the 28-year-old deal with the sloped, undulating greens at El Cab. She is also fifth in greens hit from the fairway percentage (86.25 percent), eighth in greens in regulation (78.47 percent) and ninth in bogey avoidance (9.72 percent), all stats that indicate there should be even more success to come for Green in Hollywood.

Madelene Sagstrom

Even though she is the Tour’s most recent champion, having earned her second career title at the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards on April 6, Madelene Sagstrom is still considered to be a bit of a dark horse this week in Los Angeles. This is her seventh time teeing it up in this tournament, and in her six prior starts at Wilshire Country Club, the Swede has only missed one cut and racked up three top-20 finishes, including a tie for third in 2022, a tie for 17th in 2023 and a tie for eighth in 2024.

This is her fifth event of the 2025 season, and before winning in Vegas, the 32-year-old had gotten off to a bit of a rough start on the LPGA Tour this year, missing the cut at both the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands and the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass and finishing alone in 59th at the no-cut, limited-field Honda LPGA Thailand tournament. But her match-play victory has provided Sagstrom with some positive momentum on which she can lean with the major championship season looming large.

And despite not being thought of as a favorite in LA, the now two-time winner still has a lot of solid things gleaned from her performance at Shadow Creek that she can copy and paste to this week at El Caballero Country Club as she works to contend for another victory on the LPGA Tour.
