ERIN, Wis. — The 80th U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally gets underway on Thursday at Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis. This major championship traditionally has one of the strongest fields on the LPGA Tour each season, and the 2025 playing is no different, as there are eight past champions and 24 of the top 25 athletes in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings competing. But with 156 different players in the field in Wisconsin, it can be challenging to find someone to specifically root for this week. Read on to learn more about three players to watch as they contend for the year’s second major championship title in the Badger State.

Jeeno Thitikul

Jeeno Thitikul is the clear favorite this week at the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally and for incredibly good reason. The Thailand native has been one of the hottest players on the LPGA Tour since July 2024, collecting two victories and finishing no worse than T24 on Tour since missing the cut at The Amundi Evian Championship last year. The first of the two wins she has recorded in that span came at the CME Group Tour Championship this past November at Tiburón Golf Club, which saw her take home a $4 million first-place prize, and Thitikul then finally broke through again just a couple of weeks ago at the Mizuho Americas Open, winning by four strokes over Frenchwoman Celine Boutier. Statistically, the 22-year-old is gaining strokes in every major category on the LPGA Tour this season, according to KPMG Performance Insights, and currently ranks inside the top 20 in five of those metrics, most notably sitting at first in strokes gained total (+2.87). Thitikul also leads the Tour in putts per green in regulation (1.68), birdie to bogey ratio (2.60), par-4 scoring (3.91) and Race to the CME Globe points (1,478.450 points). She is additionally second in scoring average (68.89), second in birdie percentage (27.58 percent) and tied for second in rounds in the 60s (17). This is her fourth start in the U.S. Women’s Open, and in her three previous appearances in this major tournament, she finished T24 in 2022, missed the cut in 2023 and tied for sixth in 2024 at Lancaster Country Club.

Charley Hull

This week at Erin Hills marks Charley Hull’s 11th start in the U.S. Women’s Open, and in a tournament that cuts off many of the game’s best at their knees, the Englishwoman has remained a consistent presence at this major championship over the years. She has only missed two cuts in her 10 previous U.S. Women’s Open starts at CordeValle Golf Resort in 2016 and at The Olympic Club in 2021, and Hull has earned five top-20 results, the best and most notable of which is the tie for second she recorded in 2023 at Pebble Beach Golf Links after firing a 6-under 66 in the final round. On the LPGA Tour this season, the 29-year-old has made seven starts and posted three top-20 results at the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands (T19), the HSBC Women’s World Championship (T4) and the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass (T11). In terms of strokes gained data, Hull is only ranked inside the top 20 on Tour this year in two categories according to KPMG Performance Insights – strokes gained off the tee (13, +0.60) and strokes gained total (19, +1.39) – and she is additionally ranked fifth in par-5 scoring average (4.51), eighth in ball striking (36), 12th in greens hit from the rough percentage (64.58 percent) and 13th in greens in regulation (74.75 percent). Hull hasn’t won on the LPGA Tour since capturing The Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America back in 2022, and she will be continuing her pursuit of a third career title at what is set to be a challenging Erin Hills Golf Course.

Allisen Corpuz

Even though she won the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally in 2023 at Pebble Beach, Hawaii native Allisen Corpuz is a bit of a dark horse this week at Erin Hills. She hasn’t collected an LPGA Tour title since becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner two years ago, but there’s a big upside to Corpuz when it concerns her potential success at this venue – the 27-year-old enjoys playing in the wind.

“I think just growing up in Hawaii, playing in a lot of wind, I love it,” Corpuz said in her pre-tournament press conference. “I love aiming away from the target, letting the wind take it in. I love how the wind almost helps the course setup sometimes, helps you shape the shot a little bit and helps you to almost focus in a little bit more in the moment.”

Looking at her statistics this season, Corpuz is currently picking up 0.30 strokes around the green, which puts her at 23rd in strokes gained around the green on the LPGA Tour this season, according to KPMG Performance Insights. But maybe more significantly in context of a U.S. Women’s Open, Corpuz is fifth in greens in regulation (76.39 percent) and ninth in driving accuracy (79.46 percent), additionally ranking 15th in greens hit from the rough percentage (63.04 percent) and 21st in greens hit from the fairway percentage (80.62 percent), a combination of ball striking prowess that will be significant to Corpuz’s chase of a second career U.S. Women’s Open title this week in Wisconsin.
