There were hole outs galore in the second round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic, as major winner Mao Saigo recorded her first albatross and her fellow countrywoman Yuri Yoshida made her first career ace on Saturday in Galloway, N.J.

Japan’s Saigo got the party started by dunking her second shot on the par-5 3rd hole at the Bay Course at Seaview, A Dolce Hotel, from 214 yards with a 7-wood. It was the first time that the 23-year-old had ever made a double eagle, and it was a shot that, along with the five birdies she made throughout the rest of her second round, propelled the reigning Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year to a 6-under 65 and moved her into the top five on the leaderboard with 18 holes remaining at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Saigo joined Yan Liu and Steph Kyriacou as the third player to make an albatross on the LPGA Tour this season. In April, Liu holed her second shot on the par-5 8th hole in the second round of The Chevron Championship from 170 yards with a 7-iron, while Kyriacou knocked in her second shot on the par-5 18th hole at Black Desert Resort in May during the final round of the inaugural Black Desert Championship presented by Greater Zion in Ivins, Utah.

If she were to pull out a victory on Sunday in the Garden State, it would be Saigo’s second win of both her LPGA Tour career and the 2025 LPGA Tour season. She became a Rolex First-Time Winner earlier this year at The Chevron Championship, a major title she earned after outlasting Lindy Duncan, Ariya Jutanugarn, Hyo Joo Kim and Ruoning Yin in a five-person playoff in The Woodlands, Texas, which was the largest known playoff in major championship history on the LPGA Tour.

A win at the ShopRite LPGA Classic would also make her the first athlete with two or more victories this season, as 2025 has seen 13 different players win the first 13 events of the year. She would also become the 11th player from Japan to earn at least two titles on the LPGA Tour, a feat that was most recently accomplished by rookie Rio Takeda.

Not long after Saigo’s albatross, Yoshida holed her tee shot on the par-3 17th hole at the Bay Course from 113 yards with a pitching wedge to record the first ace of her career in the second round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic. The 25-year-old made two bogeys and four birdies along with her hole-in-one to post a 4-under 67 that moved her from a tie for 20th to inside the top 10 after the morning wave finished up on day two in Galloway, N.J.

She is the second player to make an ace this week, as Lee-Anne Pace had a hole-in-one on the par-3 15th hole in the first round, knocking in her tee shot from 188 yards with her 5-hybrid. Yoshida’s ace is now the sixth hole-in-one to be recorded on the LPGA Tour this season and will see another $20,000 donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by CME Group as part of their CME Group Cares Challenge – Score 1 for St. Jude campaign.

The Challenge is a season-long giving initiative that sees CME donate $20,000 for every ace made on the LPGA Tour to St. Jude in support of childhood cancer treatment and research. Yoshida’s hole-in-one raises the 2025 donation total to $120,000, with a minimum of $500,000 guaranteed to go to the organization at the end of the year, no matter how many aces are made in 2025.
