LPGA Tour winner Wei-Ling Hsu made the 17th hole-in-one of the 2025 LPGA Tour season on Friday at the Buick LPGA Shanghai.

The 30-year-old, who hails from Chinese Taipei, aced the par-3 2nd hole at Qizhong Garden Golf Club in the second round, holing her tee shot from 155 yards with a 7-iron. It’s the second ace to be recorded this week in the People’s Republic of China, as amateur Menghan Li made a hole-in-one on the par-3 11th hole in round one.

It’s the second time that Hsu has made a hole-in-one in her LPGA Tour career, with her first ace coming in 2024 during the final round of the Maybank Championship on the par-3 11th hole at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

“That shot really surprised me, obviously,” Hsu said. “I had a good experience yesterday. It was like 140, just front side of the green. I had a perfect number yesterday, and I told my caddie before I hit the shot, I was like, 'You know what? It was perfect yesterday with the 8-iron, but we're a little bit further. Maybe we want to go 7-iron, have a three-quarter swing.'

“He agreed with me, and I was like, okay, let's do this. So I hit my 7-iron 145 and landed five or six yards shorter. It rolled towards the pin, but because the sun was against me, I can't really see it until the people, the spectators are cheering for me and yelling.”

Her hole-in-one was part of a flawless 4-under 68 that Hsu shot on day two of the Buick LPGA Shanghai, a round-two effort that saw her make two birdies on the par-3 7th and par-5 13th holes as well as 15 pars. She is currently in a tie for 31st at 4-under overall and will work to card two rounds deep in the red over the weekend as she tries to better her tournament-best T34 result in this championship while also maintaining her position inside the top 60 of the Race to the CME Globe.

After a ho-hum 72 on Thursday, Hsu felt like she made some improvements on Friday with her ball-striking that paid off in a big way, and hopes to continue building upon the good momentum she generated in the second round with 36 holes remaining.

“I actually feel kind of the same yesterday and today, but yesterday, I had a few drivers that I hit into the bunker that I really feel like I didn't do a good job yesterday,” Hsu explained. “I try to put (the ball) in the fairway today and try to save those unnecessary bogeys I feel like. Yesterday, I feel like I just chip out from the bunker, kind of waste the shot.

“Today, I tried to stay away from the bunker, and obviously, couple of putts dropped. Of course, hole-in-one dropped, so that really helps.”

CME Group will donate $20,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Hsu’s hole-in-one as part of their CME Group Cares Challenge – Score 1 for St. Jude campaign, a season-long charitable giving program that supports childhood cancer treatment and research. With her first LPGA Tour ace coming just under a year ago, Hsu knew as soon as she dunked her tee shot at Qizhong Garden Golf Club that CME Group would again donate to St. Jude on her behalf and was excited to have the opportunity to again contribute to such an important cause.

“Last year, I didn't know because I always feel like hole-in-one is not my thing until last year,” Hsu said. “You told me last year we have donation about the hole-in-one, and I was kind of keep in mind. Of course, not only happy about hole-in-one and happy about I can do something for the donation, so it was really good.”
