Major champion and Orlando resident Amy Yang capped a strong start to her 2026 season with a 3-under 69 on Sunday to finish solo second at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club.

The 36-year-old Republic of Korea native closed the season-opening tournament at 10-under, three shots behind champion Nelly Korda, who finished at 13-under after posting an 8-under 64 in round three.

High winds forced a suspension of play late Saturday afternoon, and Yang was one of eight athletes who still needed to complete their third rounds on Sunday. The decision was then made by tournament officials to reduce the Tournament of Champions to 54 holes once those eight players finished round-three play, leaving Yang in solo second after she played the final two holes at Lake Nona in the afternoon.

“I wish we played the fourth round,” Yang said. “But I think I did really well the last three rounds. I think I proved to myself that I prepared well in the offseason, and I have more clear idea what to work on for the next few days for the actual, full travel starts.”

Yang entered the third round tied for third with Nasa Hataoka at 7-under total after opening with a 4-under 68 in round one and following it with a 3-under 69 in round two to sit one shot behind co-leaders Lydia Ko and Lottie Woad. The six-time LPGA Tour winner remained steady throughout the holes she got to play on Saturday, starting with a par on one before a bogey on the par-5 second hole briefly dropped Yang back to 6-under.

She responded with a birdie on the par-3 fourth hole to return to 7-under and continued to navigate the difficult, gusty conditions with patience, turning in 36 after recording pars on holes five through nine.

The back nine then saw Yang make a run up the leaderboard. She opened with three pars before picking up a birdie on the par-3 13th hole to reach 8-under. A birdie on the par-5 15th hole moved her to 9-under, and the Korean added another at the par-4 16th to climb to 10-under, briefly drawing closer to the lead before play was called for the day.

Yang ultimately closed with pars on the par-3 17th and par-4 18th holes on Sunday afternoon to complete her weather-delayed third round, signing for 33 on the back nine and a 3-under 69 to finish runner-up to Korda.

“I wish I played final round, give myself a little chance,” Yang said when asked about the tournament being reduced to 54 holes. “But it was playing very cold out there. I got here early warming up for 10:00 a.m. resume, and the greens weren’t playable. It was frozen, so I could understand that we couldn’t finish in time.”

The runner-up result marked Yang’s best career performance at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and is her first top-10 on the LPGA Tour since she tied for eighth in her title defense at the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship.

And now, after gleaning some positive momentum from her first start of the year in her adopted hometown, Yang will enjoy a few more weeks off and likely a few more weeks of preparation before the LPGA Tour’s schedule picks up in March.
