Defending champion Brooke Henderson fired a 2-under-par 68 in Friday’s second round of the CPKC Women’s Open at Royal Mayfair Golf Club, moving to 5 under overall and positioning herself firmly in contention heading into the weekend.

Following an opening-round 67, Henderson hit 11 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in regulation during her second round. Her day included four birdies and two bogeys, capped off by a key par save on her final hole.

"Through about 14 holes I was feeling really nice," Henderson said. "Unfortunate to drop a couple shots coming in. Happy to save par on nine. I feel like that was really clutch, kind of saving some momentum and things going into tomorrow."

Playing in front of home-country crowds, the Canadian star said the energetic gallery provided a lift throughout the day.

"I love this event. It's so amazing and such a cool opportunity to be able to play in front of all the Canadian fans," Henderson said. "They just show me so much love and support year after year. Even early this morning the fairways were lined with people coming out to watch.

"Just really trying to embrace the opportunity because it doesn't — it only really happens once a year, and it's just such a unique thing that not a lot of players get to experience. I'm definitely trying to make the most of it."

Henderson has put together a solid season, making the cut in 12 of her 14 starts. She boasts three top-10 finishes on the year, including a runner-up performance at The Amundi Evian Championship, a tie for third at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championshi
