Anna Huang’s recent run of success on the Ladies European Tour has earned her the distinction of being the youngest player in the tour’s history to win four titles on the circuit by the age of 17. That achievement has naturally led to questions about when the Canadian might make the jump to competing on the LPGA Tour. That possibility could soon become a reality should Huang continue the kind of the play she displayed on Thursday at the CPKC Women’s Open where she opened with a five-under par round of 65 to climb up the leaderboard.

“I think my game is in a pretty good spot, so hopefully I can just continue playing some good golf,” Huang said about the growing self-belief in her game. “I'm definitely a lot more confident than I was the past few years coming into this event, and then also just all the crowds out there really helped.”

Huang, who grew up in Vancouver, began her day on the back nine of Royal Mayfair Golf Club and started strong with a par-birdie start to steady any nerves she might have felt competing in her native Canada. The 33 she carded on the front nine was near flawless aside from a bogey she made at the par four, 14th hole, which would become her only dropped shot of the day.

“I was a little bit frustrated with my bogey because I hit a really good drive and just had not a great approach there,” Huang said about her lone hiccup of the day. “I'm really happy that I bounced back with a birdie and kept it rolling.”

Huang made the turn in 32 for a five-under par round that could have been even stronger given she missed half the fairways on Thursday, but was able to lean on a hot putter for just 28 putts.

“On the front nine or your -- the tournament back nine I missed a couple short birdie putts,” said Huang, who has her father, Alex, on the bag this week. “But, I was able to figure it out on the back nine and rolled some really nice putts in.”

While Huang is making her third appearance at the CPKC Women’s Open, a more permanent presence on the LPGA Tour is already on the teenager’s mind. The teen has already made six starts in the major championships, including a career-best tie for 22nd at the Amundi Evian Championship in July.

“I think every LPGA member has earned their spot on to the LPGA. Everyone has worked really hard to get where they are,” Huang said on Wednesday when asked about her future plans. “If I keep doing the same, I think then this year, at the end of the year I'm going to play Q-School, and if things work out then I will get my card.”

Huang arrives in Edmonton on form as she picked up her fourth LET title in her last start just two weeks ago at the PIF London Championship for her second victory of the season. Huang also won the Lalla Maryem Cup in May in addition to back-to-back titles in September 2025. Those experiences, including going toe-to-toe with Charley Hull at the PIF London Championship where she made a thrilling eagle on the 72nd hole for a two-stroke victory, have equipped the teen with the experience and confidence to continue to contend the next three days.

“I'm going to just try to take it one shot at a time and see how things go, and trusting my process,” Huang said about her strategy for the remainder of the week. “Definitely making the cut would be a really big goal for me, and then hopefully some good weekend golf.”
