EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France — After getting off to a slow start on Thursday at The Amundi Evian Championship, Charley Hull is in the hunt at another major championship, currently sitting at 6-under through two rounds in France.

Hull posted a 5-under 66 to kick off her week at Evian Resort Golf Club, a first-round effort that left her in a five-way tie for third after day one. She bogeyed the first and sixth holes on the front nine and then caught fire in her final 12 holes, picking up five birdies and rolling in an eagle putt on the par-5 18th hole to ultimately card a 66.

“Actually, I played really well in the pro-am yesterday and started like that, and I was like, ‘Wow, golf is really frustrating,’” said Hull after round one. “Then I just believed in myself and just kind of relaxed out there and took my time and took advantage of the birdies.”

Friday’s second round was much more of an uphill battle for the Englishwoman, as Hull only managed a 1-under 70, a steady but quiet performance that saw her birdie three of the four par 5s.

She made a mistake early in the round with a bogey on 11, but Charley cleaned it up by making a birdie on the par-5 15th hole to get back to 5-under for the tournament. A birdie on 18 saw Hull climb to 6-under total, and after parring the first six holes of the front nine, she moved to 7-under with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole.

A late bogey on eight dropped the three-time LPGA Tour winner back to 1-under on the day and 6-under overall. Now, heading into the weekend of the year’s fourth major championship, Hull is chasing the top spot on the leaderboard as she once again works to claim one of the five biggest titles in the women’s game and take her name off the “best players who’ve never won a major” list.

“I played decent. I hit 17 greens in regulation. Played good,” said Hull. “I think the course, I don't know, they overwatered the greens a little bit, and some of the holes where they bounce on, it was stopping within an inch with a 6-iron. So, I think they just overwatered them a little bit. But I played decent.”

Hull has played in 12 previous editions of The Amundi Evian Championship, only finishing in the top 10 once in 2022, a year that saw her tie for third with a 72-hole total of 15-under. This is her 11th event of the 2026 season, and in her 10 starts ahead of this week, she has only made six cuts, racking up three top-10 results, two of which came in major championships.

In April, the 30-year-old tied for 10th at The Chevron Championship that was held for the first time this season at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas. She then tied for second alongside Mexico’s Gaby Lopez at the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally, falling to champion Nelly Korda by just a single stroke at the iconic Riviera Country Club.

And while that runner-up showing was certainly frustrating for Hull, as it marked her fifth T2 or better result in a major championship, Charley is one of those athletes who moves on quickly and prepares herself to capitalize on the next opportunity ahead, which now appears to have come at The Amundi Evian Championship.
