Think it was difficult for In Gee Chun to remain bogey free during her 7-under par round of 65 on Saturday at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give? Chun says that it was an easy task in comparison to Friday’s round in which she steadily strung together 18 consecutive pars.

“To be honest, yesterday's round was a little boring, but it was a very patient round,” Chun said about her day on Friday. “I think from every course, to make a bogey-free round is very hard because we need a lot of patience out there. But it was a little hard to have a birdie-free round yesterday.”

What a difference a day made for Chun who was rewarded on moving day at Blythefield Country Club for the patience she showed on Friday as she watched the field lap her on the leaderboard with her Even par round. But Saturday morning, Chun was the one doing the lapping as she posted the low round of the week so far to put herself right back in the mix heading into Sunday’s final round.

After coming up birdie-less on Friday, Chun says she strategized with her caddie, Justin Dunbar, with how they could go low over the weekend. Chun says it was that plan that helped lift her to the top of the leaderboard, along with the overwhelming fan she felt from the spectators who cheered the major champion on throughout her round.

“I was pretty surprised a lot of spectators out here,” Chun said about the fans’ response. “I was pretty thankful to all the spectators who cheered me and watched my game today. That helped a lot my game.”

Chun’s round of 65 is just the latest in a series of low rounds that the major champion has posted throughout the season; she's already shot 64 twice this year. She has two top 10s this season, including a fourth place showing in her last start at the U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club. Chun says that her success that week, combined with a new putter from Scotty Cameron, has the three-time major winner feeling quite confident about her game.

Chun has also credited her recent success as being the fruit of her work with her new coach, Song-Hee Kim, who she began working with after splitting from longtime coach Dr. Won Park. Chun, who had dealt with back pain for the better part of a decade, says she’s now feeling pain free since making the switch.

“I'm a golfer, so I can come out every week and people can see, but if you just one step back, even life has up and downs. I think it was just a part of my life,” Chun said about her health. “Now I can't say everything is good or 100 percent mentally healthy, but we have ups and downs, and just trying to enjoy the process out here.”

There were plenty of ups for Chun on Saturday, seven of them in fact, that fell up and into the cup for birdie, to put her at the top of the leaderboard as she looks to chase down her first victory on the LPGA Tour since 2022.

“Just try to take all the good parts from today to tomorrow. Just keep doing all the same, just have a good round tomorrow, have a good sleep and just practice a little bit and just keep the same game plan tomorrow,” Chun said about her final round strategy. “First thing, I'm just trying to enjoy all the process. I think that's the key because mental is really important.”
