Every champion has an origin story. For Nelly Korda, that story began on the Epson Tour.

In 2016, a 17-year-old from Bradenton, Florida, made her mark on the developmental circuit, finishing ninth on the money list and earning her LPGA Tour card before she was old enough to vote. On Sunday, June 7, 2026, Nelly Korda captured the 81st U.S. Women's Open presented by Ally, closing with a 2-under 69 to finish at 8-under par and win by one shot over England's Charley Hull and Mexico's Gaby Lopez. It is her fourth major championship title and, by her own admission, the one she has wanted most.

The win was anything but easy. Korda opened the tournament with a 2-over 73 and found herself seven shots off the lead after Round 1. A mid-tournament self-assessment helped spark three consecutive rounds in the 60s.

The leaderboard was fluctuating all afternoon until; Korda made a clutch 9-foot birdie on the par-5 17th to break a four-way tie and seize the solo lead heading to the 72nd hole. On 18, she lagged a 35-foot approach putt to within about two and a half feet, and then watched her winning putt catch the left edge, circle the lip, and fall in amid a wave of gasps and roars from the gallery.

Before the major titles, before the Olympic gold medal, before the world No. 1 ranking, there was the Epson Tour.

Korda joined the developmental circuit in 2016, earning her LPGA card as a teenager by finishing ninth on the money list. It was a formative year — one that taught her how to compete week in and week out, how to manage the rigors of professional travel, and how to handle the pressure of contending on a consistent basis.

Through just eight LPGA Tour starts this season, Korda has won four times, a staggering 50%-win rate. That run includes back-to-back major championships, with the U.S. Women's Open following her Chevron Championship title earlier this spring. Korda has reclaimed her position atop the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings as the undisputed world No. 1.
