CROMVOIRT, Netherlands - Day one of the Solheim Cup got underway on Friday at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands where players battled not just each other, but also the weather conditions as cool temperatures and rain further added to the challenge. Here’s a look at the takeaways from Friday’s Foursomes and Four-Ball matches that kicked off the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup.

Where Things Stand

The U.S. and European Teams end the first day of the Solheim Cup in a tie, 4-4, after tying each of the sessions on Friday. It’s the first time that the first day has ended in a draw since 2002.

Corpuz Kicks Off the Solheim Cup

Allisen Corpuz of the United States hit the opening tee shot to begin the 20th playing of the Solheim Cup. The American, who is making her third Solheim Cup appearance, was greeted by more than 2,600 fans who filled the grandstands on the first tee to witness the start of the matches.

Friday Foursomes

The Friday morning foursomes matches saw Team Europe take an early lead in three out of the four matches, but the session ultimately ended in a tie with both the U.S. and European Teams earning two points. According to Elias Sports Bureau, that’s just the third time in the history of the Solheim Cup that the teams were tied after the opening session. It last happened in Germany in 2015, which was also the last time that the Americans were able to win on European soil.

Korda and Corpuz Deliver Again

Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz made history Friday morning as they matched the all-time record of earning five points as a duo by defeating Charley Hull and Lottie Woad 4 & 3.

“She's just so solid. Honestly, I enjoy playing with her so much,’” Korda said about playing with Corpuz. “We have a lot of fun out there. Our caddies have so much fun out there. Yeah, it's just, she's just such a solid player. It's really good to rely on her and it's also fun.”

Corpuz and Korda were also victorious in all their matches they played together in 2023 and 2024. They were the first to put a point on the board for the Americans on Friday.

Friday Four-Ball

The afternoon session proved to be just as close as the morning as two of the four matches weren't determined until the 18th hole and the Four-Ball matches ended in a tie between the U.S. and European Teams. Friday afternoon, each team won an outright match and tied the other two, with each side taking home 1.5 points in the Four-Balls.

Yin Competes

Questions surrounded Angel Yin’s participation in this year’s Solheim Cup team after she dealt with an undisclosed illness during the summer that kept her away from the LPGA Tour for two months. U.S. Captain Angela Stanford brought Lilia Vu to the Netherlands to serve as an alternate for the team in the event Yin wasn’t ready to compete come Friday. Although Yin sat during the morning session, she did tee it up in afternoon Four-Ball matches alongside teammate Yealimi Noh. The duo were the first pairing out in the afternoon session and ultimately finished their match in a tie with Charley Hull and Lottie Woad.
