Hannah Green had to have been experiencing a sense of deja vu as she walked off the 18th green at Sentosa Golf Club on Friday.

The Aussie had just birdied the last three holes of her day, jumpstarted by a 12-footer at the par-5 16th hole, followed by two more "really nice" putts as she described them at the 17th and 18th holes to sit just two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend at the HSBC Women's World Championship. Green did the exact same thing just two years ago in Singapore, on the same three holes, to win by a single stroke ahead of Celine Boutier, for her fourth career win on the LPGA Tour.

"It was nice to finish in a positive way with three birdies," Green said following Friday's round of 66. "Hopefully, I can take that momentum to the weekend."

Those positive vibes came after a mostly trying day for Green, who said her putter went cold on her after an easy day on the greens on Thursday. But Green, who knows the putting complexes at Sentosa Golf Club well, remained patient as she waited for her flatstick to thaw, which led to her thrilling three-hole charge up the leaderboard.

"I felt I played a lot better than yesterday. Got away with shots yesterday but felt like the putter was a little bit colder," Green said about her start to the week. "I was hitting a lot of good shots on the back nine, but just not really making the putt, or wasn't perhaps going as close as I would like. But made a good putt on 16 from 12 feet and made a really nice putt on 17 and 18."

It's all a proving ground this week for players, many of whom, like Green, are just getting their seasons started. Green began her schedule last week at the Honda LPGA Thailand, where she came away with a top 10 finish to begin her year. Green has often played well during the Tour's spring swing through Asia. She not only found victory in Singapore in 2024, but she has three more top 10s in addition to a runner-up finish at the HSBC Women's World Championship.

"I always enjoy having time off. I took pretty much the entire December off. Didn't touch a golf club," said Green, who still makes her home in her native Australia. "I made sure that I was well-rested before I got back into it and really highly motivated, and I think that helps me perform at the start of the year. And also Singapore and Thailand, places where I've had good results, that's always helpful. But the mindset of being back at home is helpful so hopefully I can continue that the rest of year."

During that time off, Green caddied for her husband, Jarryd Felton, who is also a professional golfer. He's returning the favor and caddied for his wife last week in Thailand and again this week in Singapore. Having carried the bag herself, Green said it's given her a whole new appreciation for her regular looper, Dave Buhai. She's also enjoyed sharing a ton of laughs with her husband by her side during her trip to Asia.

"It was interesting to be on the other side of the ropes, I guess you could say, or the other side of the bag," Green said about caddying for her husband during the off-season. "It's been quite fun these last two weeks."

In 2024, Green carded back-to-back rounds of 67 en route to her victory, and she believes she's going to need to go low to try and match what she expects will be a winning score somewhere in the teens. Green won at 13-under par and currently sits at 9-under par through 36 holes, two behind Auston Kim.

"I think I'm going to need a lot this weekend," Green said about her chances this weekend in Singapore. "I think staying patient, which is what I did to be able to birdie the last three holes, giving myself as many good opportunities as possible and obviously limiting those bogeys."

Green was no doubt feeling a sense of deja vu when she wrapped up her round on Friday, but will she be having that same feeling and be hoisting the trophy once more on the 72nd hole on Sunday? It certainly feels like a bit of history repeating for Hannah Green.

"If I can continue what I'm doing, I'll be up there hopefully Sunday."
