Erika Hara opened the ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open with a 2-under-par 70 on Thursday, putting the LPGA Tour rookie in a tie for fifth place at Dundonald Links after the first round.

The Japanese native made the turn in 34 after starting her round on the back nine, then carded a 36 on the front to finish four shots off the pace set by Jenny Shin, who leads at 6-under 66.

The rookie's scorecard featured four birdies against two bogeys. She got her round started with a birdie at the par-4 10th hole to move to 1-under, then added another birdie at the par-3 15th hole to reach 2-under. Pars over her final three holes on that side sent her to the turn at 2-under.

A bogey at the first hole dropped her back to 1-under, but the 27-year-old answered with a birdie at the par-5 third to return to 2-under. She added her fourth birdie of the day at the par-5 fifth to climb to 3-under before a bogey at the par-4 eighth pulled her back to 2-under. A closing par at the ninth locked in her first round 70.

Hara is in her first season on the LPGA Tour after a standout rookie campaign on the Epson Tour in 2025. Last year, she finished fifth in the Epson Tour’s Race for the Card standings to earn her full LPGA Tour membership for 2026. She made 17 cuts in 18 starts on the Epson Tour, recording nine top-10 finishes and a victory at the Wildhorse Ladies Golf Classic.

This season, the Epson Tour graduate has made nine cuts in 14 starts, recording three top-10 finishes, including a tie for ninth at the Mizuho Americas Open and a tie for ninth at the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba.
