On Friday at the Dow Championship in Midland, Mich., Hall of Famer Juli Inkster broke an LPGA Tour record that had stood for over two decades.

Playing alongside Angel Yin in the only regular-season team event that’s on the Tour’s schedule each year, Inkster made the 36-hole cut at Midland Country Club, becoming the oldest athlete to do so since a 64-year-old JoAnne Carner teed it up on the weekend at the 2004 Chick-fil-A Charity Championship.

The 31-time LPGA Tour winner and seven-time major champion was 65 years, 11 months and 19 days old on Friday, and this week’s tournament marks her first made cut since the 2021 Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.

“I had a great partner. It's great. I'm happy I played,” said Inkster, who was invited to complete by Yin, a member of two of the U.S. Solheim Cup Teams Inkster captained in 2017 and 2019. “Sometimes, you got to put yourself out there, and I felt like I did this week. I've enjoyed playing with Angel. We left a lot of them out there today.”

Inkster and Yin have been friends since the former selected the latter as a captain’s pick for the 2017 U.S. Solheim Cup Team. Juli had initially asked Angel about competing as partners in the Dow Championship a couple of years ago, but when it didn’t work out, Yin then proposed they team up in 2026, something to which Inkster finally agreed after needing to mull it over.

“(Angel) comes and sees me in the desert, and we hang out. I really enjoy being around her, and I like her energy. Well, less energy, but I like the way – she's fun,” Inkster said with a smile in the team’s pre-tournament press conference. “I thought it would be really fun, and then she kept, ‘Let's do it this year. Let's do it this year.’ I'm like, ‘I don't know. I don't know.’ But you know what? I got to a point where, why not?

“Best ball, she can carry me. Alternate shot, she can carry me half the shots. We'll have a good time, and in this stage of my life, that's what I want to do. I want to just enjoy myself.”

This is the second tournament in which Inkster has teed it up over the last two seasons, as she played in The Standard Portland Classic in August 2025. She missed the cut by just one stroke that week, posting a two-day total of 1-under par in what was her first start on the LPGA Tour since 2022.

That result is a close call that Inkster has now rectified in Michigan, and the “oldest player to make a cut” moniker is just another accolade she has added to the laundry list of noteworthy accomplishments that decorate the Hall of Famer’s decades-long resume as a professional golfer.

Her made cut is also a testament to Juli’s longevity in the women’s game, further proving the 65-year-old to be an inspiring example of excellence in the female golf space.

But Inkster isn’t concerning herself too much with the record she broke after the second round and is instead trying to make even more unforgettable memories with one of her close friends as a member of Team Frick & Frack at the Dow Championship.
