On a Saturday when low scoring was in abundance at The Amundi Evian Championship, Casandra Alexander took full advantage — shooting her career-low round.

Alexander, after an 8-under 63 – which was the low round of the day until Haeran Ryu fired an incredible 11-under 60, the lowest round in the history of major championship golf – sits solo fifth heading into the finale in France.

The Rolex Rankings No. 33 player has had a steady climb in the rankings the last 12 months after an impressive season on the Ladies European Tour. Although she’ll have to put up her own record number on Sunday to chase down Ryu for a win this particular week, she knows she’s got what it takes to win eventually on the LPGA Tour.

“Hopefully we can get some wins under the belt. We've got too many seconds,” Alexender said with a smile on Saturday afternoon. “I always say the way we got into those second places running up to this event was all different, and all in different circumstances. So, yeah, hopefully I can play well tomorrow and make the charge.”

Alexander, who leads the Order of Merit on the LET so far this season, had a tough opener at Evian-les-Baines after shooting a 73 Thursday, but she’s since rallied, with her 63 coming after a Friday 66 to make the cut.

Alexander was 2 under through her first four holes Saturday and added two more birdies on her front nine. She made another on the par-4 10th hole before rattling off four in a row on Nos. 13-16. The native of South Africa gave one back on the par-4 17th hole but otherwise felt happy with her solid moving-day effort.

She said she hit a “terrible” tee shot on the penultimate hole, leading to the bogey and then did the same thing on No. 18 – “Two, I would say, silly mistakes” – but she said, overall and otherwise, she recovered well and scrambled nicely through the day to keep the round moving.

“It was good. Besides for that bogey on 17, I would say it was a pretty good day. Putter was on fire. Every putt I looked at looked like it was going in. Pretty chuffed. Hopefully the same tomorrow,” Alexander said.

“Actually I didn't have a look at the leaderboard at all. I didn't know where I was or what I was doing. I was just trying to play the best I could.”

Although Alexander has won just once on the LET – at the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open last summer – she has won six times on the Sunshine Ladies Tour and has continued to put herself in position for even more trophies throughout 2026. Earlier this year, for example, she had a run of three tournaments out of four where she finished second. Overall, she has eight top-10 finishes on the LET this season.

She will be part of a robust chasing pack all looking to take down Ryu, who is – like Nelly Korda earlier in 2026 – looking to win her second major in a row. Ryu is up three on Aki Iwai and up seven on Brooke Henderson and Mao Saigo who are tied for third at the Evian Championship.

Although it’s her first time in the major mix heading into the final round, Alexander, who is on track to be a force on the LPGA Tour for years to come after this season on the LET, knows she’s got what it takes to hang a solid result on a big stage.

“To be in the position I’m in after the first day is pretty good,” Alexander said. “Let’s see what Sunday can hold.”
