Yan Liu capped a composed and consistent week at The Chevron Championship with her best round of the tournament on Sunday, carding a bogey-free 5-under 67 at Memorial Park Golf Course to finish at 12-under and claim a share of fourth place alongside Ina Yoon in the first major championship of the 2026 season.

The 28-year-old from the People’s Republic of China began the final round at 7-under, nine shots behind eventual champion Nelly Korda, and made her move early. Liu opened with a birdie on the par-5 first hole to get to 8-under, then added another on the par-4 fifth to reach 9-under. A birdie on the par-5 eighth hole pushed her to 10-under before she made the turn in 33.

Liu continued her run on the back nine, picking up a birdie on the par-5 16th to climb to 11-under, then closing with a birdie on the par-4 18th to post a 67 and finish at 12-under for the week.

“I think this week, I just have very solid golf,” Liu said. “I love this course setup. Everything kind of match my game and I play very patient whole week, and even I have some mistake. But I very good fought to get back.”

The clean scorecard—13 pars, five birdies and no bogeys—reflected the patient, methodical approach Liu brought to Memorial Park all week. She credited her approach game as a key driver of her T4 performance, noting that Sunday’s putting brought everything together.

“I think same last couple days. Today my putting is better than. I feel my approach shot going so well this week,” Liu said in her post-round interview.”

The result is the best major championship finish of Liu’s career and her is lone top-10 result of the 2026 season through eight starts. But the top-five also carries historical significance.

Liu finished in the top five alongside her fellow People’s Republic of China native Ruoning Yin, who tied for second, marking only the second time multiple players from the People’s Republic of China have ever finished in the top five of a major championship. The first time came in 2023 when Yin won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship outright and Xiyu Lin finished in a tie for third.

Liu was asked about the significance of representing the People’s Republic of China alongside Yin in the top five of a major.

“Well, I think because we only have three players win on LPGA, I think my goal is win (and) bring more trophy to China,” Liu said. “I think I will do my best and I think every Chinese player, they work really hard and try their best.”

Ranked sixth on the LPGA Tour in birdies this season with 123, Liu has shown she knows how to score, an ability that should allow her to contend often. Her first LPGA Tour win remains the next milestone.

In terms of her career accomplishments, Liu’s most notable accolade was competing at the 2025 Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown as a member of the People’s Republic of China Team. The Epson Tour graduate first earned her LPGA card after finishing ninth in the 2022 Race for the Card on the Epson Tour.

Liu previously finished T9 at The Chevron Championship in 2025 and missed the cut in 2024, making Sunday’s result a meaningful step forward at an event that has increasingly suited her game.

Korda won The Chevron Championship at 18-under, five shots clear of the field. Liu’s T4 finish—the best of her major championship career—signals that her first LPGA Tour victory may not be far off.
