Longest-standing non-major LPGA invites Hinako Shibuno, Cheyenne Woods, Yvonne Vinceri and Natalie Srinivasan to 2020 Edition
PORTLAND, OR (August 28, 2020) – The Cambia Portland Classic announced the four tournament invitations for the 49th edition taking place September 17-20 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
The invites have been awarded to Japan’s Hinako Shibuno, the 2019 AIG Women’s Open Champion and America’s Cheyenne Woods, a winner on the Ladies European Tour, North Carolina’s Natalie Srinivasan who recently turned professional after a phenomenal college career and to amateur rising star, Portland’s Yvonne Vinceri.
Shibuno burst onto the LPGA scene last year at the AIG Women’s Open in Woburn, England, winning a Major on her very first international adventure. Known as the ‘Smiling Cinderella,’ her engaging smile and stellar game has won her legions of fans worldwide. Woods, one of the most recognizable and engaging players in the women’s game, is looking to regain her full LPGA card and is hoping to make the most of this opportunity.
Woods commented: “I am so grateful to receive an invite to the Cambia Portland Classic. I appreciate all the work that Cambia is doing for the event, and for their efforts to ensure that the tournament can go ahead in these difficult times. My game is in a good place, and I am excited to get back to Portland to compete in such a big event and keep the momentum going.”
Vinceri, a Senior at Riverdale High School in Portland, posted an impressive 4-under par to win the 2020 Portland Classic Amateur Open held at Langdon Farms in Aurora, Oregon, securing the coveted first prize of an invitation into the Cambia Portland Classic field.
Furman senior Natalie Srinivasan has had a year of honors and awards winning the 2020 ANNIKA Award as well as being announced as the 2020 PING WGCA National Player of the Year having finished the 2019-20 season as the top-ranked active collegiate women’s golfer. However, it is her most recent accolade that earned her a place in this year’s tournament – in being awarded the inaugural Division I Juli Inkster Senior Award presented by WorkDay, Srinivasan receives this sponsor exemption as well as the priceless opportunity to spend time with Inkster during a two-day mentorship retreat.
“I am so honored to be the inaugural winner of the Division I Juli Inkster Senior Award presented by WorkDay and am very thankful it has also given me the opportunity to tee it up is such an important LPGA event.” said Srinivasan “The field at the 2020 Cambia Portland Classic is amazing and it will be such a fantastic experience to play along side so many of the world’s best golfers. Having recently turned professional, this will give me real insight as to where my game is at in comparison.”
Won last year by Australia’s Hannah Green, the 2019 KPMG Women's PGA Championship Champion, the 49th Cambia Portland will take place without fans this year following close consultation and collaboration with partners Cambia and the state and local health officials.
The event, which is known for standout winners with former champions including ten-time major winner Annika Sorenstam, hall of famer Lorena Ochoa, Solheim Cup hero Suzann Pettersen and, more recently, Canada’s most successful golfer, Brooke Henderson is only one year shy of an incredible 50 years of staging and is set to secure another star-studded field this year.
