SHIN, MIYAZATO AND KERR LEAD THE LPGA TO HOUSTON;
Field for the LPGA Tour Championship presented by Rolex finalized
NOVEMBER 10, 2009, HOUSTON - The final field for the LPGA Tour Championship presented by Rolex has been set with the top players in the world descending on The Houstonian Golf & Country Club November 17-22. Players qualified to play in the season-ending Championship based on their standings on the LPGA Official Money List as of Monday, November 9.
Leading the field is Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year Jiyai Shin who topped the money list with over $1.7 million earned so far this year. Following Shin on the money list were Japanese Ai Miyazato and American Cristie Kerr. In fourth place was Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, followed by Rolex Rankings number one Lorena Ochoa of Mexico and South Korean Na Yeon Choi. Taiwan native Yani Tseng secured the seventh spot followed by South Korean In-Kyung Kim and Texan Angela Stanford. Rounding out the top 10 was American Paula Creamer.
Other notable players who will be playing in the LPGA Tour Championship presented by Rolex are Sophie Gustafson, who won the last LPGA tournament held in the Houston area, and Americans Michelle Wie, Morgan Pressel, Christina Kim, Natalie Gulbis, Stacy Lewis, who is from Texas, and LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame member Juli Inkster.
The Rolex Player of the Year award will likely come down the LPGA's season-ending event in Houston. Shin has the opportunity to become the first player since Nancy Lopez in 1978 to win both the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award and the Rolex Player of the Year award.
It has been over 20 years since the LPGA has hosted a full-field event in the greater Houston area, and not only has the LPGA returned, they have returned with their season finale which could determine who takes home the top spot on the 2009 LPGA Official Money List.
