Career
Mary Lou had several high finishes in her first few seasons on Tour but lacked the consistency needed to become a big money winner. But she broke through into the victory column in 1973 when she won the Marc Equity Classic in Buffalo, N.Y., and has been a frequent contender ever since. She had surgery on both wrists in 1974 but bounced back for her best year ever in 1977.
Amateur
In 1961 Mary Lou was runner-up in the Women’s Western Junior, and she won the title the following year. She also won the USGA Junior Girls Championship in ‘62 and was named Kentucky Female Amateur Athlete-of-the-Year. Before turning pro she won the Kentucky State Amateur title in 1965.
