Wright represented Scotland from ages 15-24 in international competition. She placed second in the 1980-81 Scottish Girls Championship and third in the 1980 British Girls Championship. She tied for first (and lost in the subsequent playoff) in the 1980 British Women’s Stroke Play Championship. In 1981, she represented Britain in the Vagliano Trophy Match. Wright took second in the 1982 Scottish Women’s Championship and in 1985 was the winner of the Scottish Women’s Stroke Play Championship. At Arizona State University, she was the PAC-10 champion twice and a two-time All-American. Additionally, she was the 1986 PAC-10 Most Valuable Player. In 1988, she was nominated for the Collegiate Player of the Year and the Honda Broderick Award.
