Following the morning wave of the second round of the 2021 ANA Inspiration, Moriya Jutanugarn holds the solo lead at -7. The Thailand native shot 3-under 69 on Friday, carding four birdies and one bogey. Jutanugarn, who has one Tour title to her name, is aiming to join her sister Ariya Jutanugarn as a major winner, following Ariya’s major titles at the 2016 AIG Women’s Open and the 2018 U.S. Women’s Open.
Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist sits in second at -6, making five birdies and three bogeys in her second-round 2-under 70. Nordqvist already has major victories at the 2009 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the 2017 Amundi Evian Championship, the latter being her most recent LPGA Tour victory. Should she take the victory, Nordqvist would join Laura Davies and Yani Tseng as active LPGA Tour players who are one win short of the Career Grand Slam, which is defined as winning four different majors available in a player’s career. Only seven players have won the Career Grand Slam and only Karrie Webb has won the Super Career Grand Slam, which is winning five different majors available in a player’s career.
Five major champions ended the morning wave tied for fifth at -5 – Sophia Popov (2020 AIG Women’s Open), Inbee Park (seven majors, including the 2013 ANA Inspiration), Mirim Lee (2020 ANA Inspiration), Jin Young Ko (two majors, including the 2019 ANA Inspiration) and Georgia Hall (2018 AIG Women’s Open).
First-round leaders Patty Tavatanakit (-6) and Shanshan Feng (-5) are in Friday’s afternoon wave.
