LPGA*USGA Girls Golf alum Lindsey Weaver and the rest of her grouping were spinning their tires early Friday evening, hustling to finish their second round with darkness quickly approaching. The threesome crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 19 minutes and it was a 4-under 67 for the Celina, Texas native, highlighted by a back-nine 32.
“I was just making a lot of putts at the beginning and hitting a lot of greens,” Weaver said. “I think I missed two greens on the front but I holed out from the bunker on 17, so I kind of had it going. Made a bogey on 2 but just kind of hung in there toward the end.”
Weaver sits on the bubble for the CME Group Tour Championship, which sees 60 players tee it up to culminate the season. Currently 84th in the Race to the CME Globe, Weaver is being cavalier about her position on the leaderboard, trying not to let her expectations get the better of her on the weekend. She’s just happy to be finished, feeling grateful for the extra hours of sleep on Saturday, and looking forward to next year, one that will see her with a new last name thanks to her impending wedding to long-time fiancé and Korn Ferry Tour player Zach Wright.
“I was telling my caddie, I would hate to be playing No. 9 at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning so I'm happy I don't have to wake up at 5 a.m. tomorrow,” she said. “I haven't had that spectacular of a year, but I know I'll be out here next year. If I can have a good week and finish this week and secure (a spot) in the top 80, that would be great. Make CME, who knows. Just all going to pan out the way it does. I'm trying to play my best and not think about it. I think this is my last tournament of the season, so I am just happy to be here. This is my last tournament as Lindsey Weaver as well. I'll be Lindsey Wright next season, so I'm excited for that, too. And whatever happens, I'm just taking it all in stride.”
