The past couple of weeks have provided a huge confidence boost for Min Lee who won the 2021 Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship on the Epson Tour in late May. Then, last week, Lee finished second at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship. To further boost her confidence, Lee is staying with a host family that has become a support group. She credits the Finks, who learn near Blythefield Country Club, with making the Meijer LPGA Classic such a great event for her.
“I feel great because this tournament has always been one of my favorites. I have had a great host family since my first year on the LPGA, and it's been seven years that I stayed with them,” said Lee, who smiled as she talked about the reunion after not seeing them for a year due to the pandemic. “Well, the dad, his birthday was just a couple days ago and then one of the sons is a couple days after me (June 3), so it was like a June celebration birthday.”
To some players, two successive great finishes followed by the possibility of winning her first LPGA Tour victory and/or spot on the Olympic team, on top of wanting to perform well for her host family might be too much to handle. For 26-year-old Lee, though, she knows she can handle it. How? Because her goal is always to try her best, which has and continues to work for her.
“I mean, after the Rolex Rankings came out and I knew that I be able to join the [Olympic] team I was very happy. But still two weeks away, and I think I just try to focus on my game and just play the best I can to see how it's going to happen,” said Lee. “I can't control how [the others] play, so just play my best. Hopefully that will happen.”
