JODI EWART SHADOFF USES HOLE-IN-ONE TO MAKE THE WEEKEND IN SAN FRAN
In the morning wave during the second round of the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club, Jodi Ewart Shadoff collected the eighth hole-in-one of the 2021 LPGA Tour season with a 6-iron on the par-3 17th from 163 yards.
“I actually struck it really well. There’s like a little ridge behind the green and I saw it going up, thought initially that it had gone over the back but then it started coming back,” said Ewart Shadoff, who carded a 2-under par 70 on Friday and is even par for the tournament. “I didn't see it go in because you can't see the hole, but everybody was like, ‘It went in.’ I was like, ‘Oh, yay.’ It was nice because I was kind of flirting with the cut line.
“It came at a very critical time in the round. I was pushing for birdies coming in and the putts were not really dropping. So, it was nice not to [have to] putt.”
For the ace, CME Group will donate $20,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. In the afternoon wave, Australian Su Oh recorded the second ace of the day at the MEDIHEAL Championship from 144 yards on No. 3 with her 8-iron, making it the ninth hole-in-one of 2021 for a total of $180,000 donated thus far to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“Oh wow, perfect. That’s amazing,” Ewart Shadoff said after her fourth career hole-in-one on the LPGA Tour. “I'm proud of being able to contribute to that. The Tour being associated with such an amazing charity like that and having the opportunity to donate that amount of money is amazing.”
OH, WHAT A SHOT! SU OH ACES THE PAR-3 3RD
In the afternoon wave during the second round of the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club, Su Oh collected the ninth hole-in-one of the 2021 LPGA Tour season with an 8-iron on the par-3 3rd from 144 yards.
“They put the tee up and I had been practicing to the front pin from the back tee, so I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t know,’” said Oh, who carded a 2-under par 70 on Friday and is 3-under for the tournament. “But it was a good number for an 8-iron and then I hit it and was like, ‘Oh, that looks good.’ I was leaning left and then it went it, so I saw it through the whole way.”
So, the lean does work?
“This one it did, I guess,” Oh said with a smile.

“It’s quite amazing what they’re doing for the kids. I’m glad I could contribute and would love to keep on contributing more,” Oh said after her third career hole-in-one on the LPGA Tour. “I met one of the girls at [2019] CME [Group Tour Championship] from the St. Jude’s Hospital. It’s quite deep, I guess, that we can contribute so much. But it was only a shot and it’s not like life or death [for us]. For them it’s literally life or death. It is pretty cool that they’re donating like that, and I can be part of it.”
