It has been 15 years since women’s professional golf arrived in India in a big way with the inaugural Hero Women’s Indian Open. Three years later in 2010 the event officially joined the LET schedule. But it was in 2016 that the Hero Women’s Indian Open went to another level with a teenaged winner named Aditi Ashok, a native of Bangalore, who became the first Indian ever to capture an event on the LET.
Since then, Ashok has become one of the more popular players on the LPGA Tour and her run at the Tokyo Olympic Games inspired a nation.
Now, another Indian native, Diksha Dagar, has also won on the LET.
With India on the precipice of surpassing China as the world’s most populous nation, the BBC recently aired a feature on the rise of women’s golf in South Asian nation.
