Minjee Lee remains atop the Rolex ANNIKA Major Award Standings after finishing tied for second at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The runner-up finish comes less than a month after she jumped to the top of the standings with her victory at the U.S. Women’s Open presented by ProMedica. In Gee Chun, the winner of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, climbs into a tie for second in the standings along with Jennifer Kupcho, who won the season’s first major at the Chevron Championship. The duo has each earned 84 points.
Chun captured her third major title at Congressional Country Club to become just the third player from the Republic of Korea to win three major championships, joining the elite company of Inbee Park and Se Ri Park.
“I think every player when they are playing golf and when they play from the last group on the last day, everyone has pressure,” Chun said after her victory. “I thought this pressure is not just me. Then the key is who can handle it well.”
Chun put on a dominating performance to capture the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, in which she went wire-to-wire after an opening round eight-under par 64 tied the Championship record and put her clear of the field for most of the week. She held off a final-round charge from Lexi Thompson to pull out a one-stroke victory. Thompson sits at No. 4 in the Rolex ANNIKA Major Award Point Standings with 38 points after recording a runner-up finish at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and a fourth-place finish at the Chevron Championship.
Hye-Jin Choi played in the final group on Sunday and remains at No. 5 in the standings with 30 points following her fifth-place finish at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open.
Jessica Korda, who finished runner-up at the Chevron Championship, the season’s first major, sits at No. 6 in the point standings. Mina Harigae who finished solo second behind Lee the U.S. Women’s Open is at No. 7 in the standings.
Hyo Joo Kim, Hannah Green, and Pia Babnik round out the top 10 in the Rolex Annika Major Award Point Standings with 18 points apiece.
The Rolex ANNIKA Major Award is presented at season’s end to the player who has displayed the most consistent record in each of the five major championships - the Chevron Championship, U.S. Women’s Open, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Amundi Evian Championship and AIG Women’s Open. Players who record a top-10 finish in each of the major championships earn points, but in order to capture the award at the end of the season, a player must have also won at least one of the season’s major championships
The winner of the 2022 Rolex Annika Major Award will be recognized at the Rolex LPGA Awards at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.
