PROCTER & GAMBLE TO TITLE SPONSOR ARKANSAS LPGA EVENT 2008 TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD JULY 4TH WEEKEND
ROGERS, AR – Tournament officials have announced that Procter & Gamble has agreed to become the title sponsor of the LPGA Tour Official Event in Rogers, Arkansas. The newly renamed P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship presented by John Q. Hammons has been moved on the Tour calendar to the week of June 30 – July 6, 2008. In addition, the 2008 prize money will total $1.7 million, up $450,000 from last year. The stars of the LPGA Tour will once again be competing in a 54-hole format at prestigious Pinnacle Country Club.
“It’s incredibly exciting and a great opportunity to have the LPGA Tour here in Northwest Arkansas,” said Jeff Schomburger, President of P&G's Global Wal-Mart Team. “We are very proud to be the title sponsor of what is going to be a great event and another reason that Northwest Arkansas is a great place to live.”
Schomburger added that having “P&G Beauty” in the title of the Tournament is because it is a great fit with the LPGA and an opportunity to showcase its line of leading beauty brands, including Olay, Pantene, Cover Girl and Venus.
“We are delighted to welcome Procter & Gamble as an LPGA title sponsor,” said LPGA Commissioner Carolyn F. Bivens. “As a world-class marketer, they have already enhanced the event that premiered last year in Northwest Arkansas.”
The Tournament will host a July 4th celebration following the first round of championship play, Friday, July 4. Initial plans for the festivities include a musical concert and fireworks display.
“This title sponsorship by P&G represents a great step forward for our LPGA event,” said Jay Allen, Tournament Chairman. “Today P&G is further underscoring its commitment to improving the quality of life in Northwest Arkansas while giving us an opportunity to make this event one of the best on the LPGA Tour.”
