Lewis will be the featured guest in the “A” Walk of Honor

It has been a memorable year already for Stacy Lewis, but now the 2012 LPGA Rolex Player of the Year and University of Arkansas alum will get the opportunity to take part in one of the most recognizable and storied traditions in Arkansas football. On Friday, Lewis will be the featured guest in the “A” Walk of Honor prior to the Arkansas-LSU football game at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

“Running through the A” is one of the Razorbacks’ most storied football traditions. While “Running through the A” is a tradition reserved only for members of the University of Arkansas football team, Razorback Athletics created a program to honor those individuals or groups who have played a significant role in the support of Razorback Athletics. Lewis is the first female student-athlete and only the second Razorback student-athlete to be given the honor of taking part in the tradition.

Lewis will be recognized on the video board and over the public address system as she walks through the “A” formed by the Razorback Marching Band. After completing the walk, she will then help complete the “A” before welcoming Coach John L. Smith and the Arkansas Razorback football team on the field just prior to kickoff. The four-time All-American will also be inducted into the University of Arkansas’ “A” Walk of Honor Hall of Fame.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome back a great Razorback and the world’s top female golfer to participate in the “A” Walk of Honor,” University of Arkansas Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “We are all extremely proud of her tremendous accomplishments, but even more so of her character, generosity and focus on helping others. As much as she has accomplished on the golf course in both her collegiate and professional careers, Stacy’s positive impact on our program continues to make a difference in the lives of Razorback student-athletes. It is only fitting that Stacy’s record-setting year will culminate with participating in one of the University of Arkansas’ most recognizable athletic traditions.”

Last June, Lewis became the first female student-athlete to join the Razorback Foundation’s Century Circle. The Century Circle recognizes former Razorback student-athletes who make a gift of $100,000 or more to the athletic program. Her $100,000 gift will be used to aid in the expansion of the Razorback golf training facilities at Blessings, the Razorbacks’ home course.
