We have come a long ways since Australia. I have been to a lot of different places, experienced all weather conditions, and played various course layouts. I would have to say, as of right now, Mission Hills is my favorite course. There is something about Palm Springs. The weather is great, although it is very hot there always. I love the course! It is a balls strikers course, that requires a lot of shot making, and it is always in great shape. Plus, it is the first Major of the year! I actually got to stay with Terry Wilcox the first few days of the tournament. Terry Wilcox is Mr. Poppie of Mr. Poppie’s pond, the pond the Champion jumps in every Sunday of the Kraft. He is a family friend, and was willing to help me out because I didn’t find out I was in the Kraft until the completion of play at La Costa the week before. It was very nerve-racking. I just had to wait around all day to see if I would actually get into the tournament. I was constantly checking flights, because if I didn’t get in I was trying to get on a red eye home. It was stressful, but let me just say I slept great Sunday night. When all was said and done, I was pumped I got into the event and it was worth the wait!
Overall, my rookie season hasn’t gone as planned or as I hoped. I am a very competitive person, so I want to play my best and be competitive. It has been a long journey so far, and I am only at the beginning. Every day is a learning experience from renting cars, to booking flights, to finding the right caddy. It all comes with the territory of being a rookie.
Funny story, myself and another rookie stayed together during the RR Donnelly at the beginning of the season. We were sharing a room at the Hampton and we were sharing a rental car. The Hampton is practically across the street from the airport. At the end of the RR Donnelly we were planning on driving to San Diego to our next stop, the La Costa. I had found it was cheaper to return the car we had for the RR Donnelly at the end of the week and rent another car to drive to San Diego. So come Monday morning we had planned on getting up and packing the car and switching it out to for the next car. The car was “compact size” so lets just say we had windows open with stuff hanging out just so we could fit with everything else inside this car. As we were packing it started raining, so we were like great, this is going to be a mess. So we finally get everything in the car and start driving down the road and a light bulb came on in my head. I say, “ We are definitely rookies.” She responded, “Why do you say that?’ I explained that the airport is so close we should have gone and returned the compact car, got our new, bigger, car and brought it back and load the car. We laughed forever about it because once we got to the rental place we had to unload all our stuff. One of us had to stay with all the bags, while the other went and got the car. Let’s just say we learned out lesson! Rookie Mistake!
We have a few more events left. I am excited about playing, and I hope to finish the season strong, get a few more events under my belt, and try to play the best I can! Next stop is Vancouver. This will be my first time in Canada, and I hear it is beautiful. I am looking forward to playing and competing!
