Rookie coasts to major victory
HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. -- A long and memorable day for Anna Nordqvist ended with well-deserved champagne shower on the 18th green.
Playing in only her fifth professional tournament, the steely nerved rookie from Sweden shot a 4-under 68 on Sunday to win the LPGA Championship by four strokes over Lindsey Wright.
Nordqvist finished at 15-under 273 in the tournament's final stand at Bulle Rock Golf Course. After letting a five-shot lead dwindle to one, Nordqvist sank a 12-foot birdie putt on No. 14 and essentially clinched her first career victory with a 35-foot putt for a birdie on No. 15.

Nordqvist claims 2009 Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year Award for 2009
DUBAI – 12th December 2009 -- Anna Nordqvist, the current world number seven, was announced as the Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year for 2009 at the Ladies European Tour’s end of year awards ceremony held in association with the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters at Emirates Golf Club.
In front of her fellow competitors, the 6 foot tall 22-year-old from Eskilstunan in Sweden was honoured as the leading first year player on the Ladies European Tour this year. More>>
Former ASU golfers Anna Nordqvist, Azahara Munoz named to 2011 Solheim Cup team
Former Arizona State teammates Anna Nordqvist and Azahara Munoz were named to the European Team for the 2011 Solheim Cup. The biennial event between the best women's professional players from Europe and the U.S. will take place at the Killeen Castle in Ireland from Sept. 23-25.
"It's a huge honor," said Munoz, who will make her Solheim Cup debut as a wild-card selection by European captain Alison Nicholas. "My goal this year, the only thing I was thinking about, was playing the Solheim Cup. I'm so excited and I don't even have the words to describe how I feel right now. It's always been a dream."
Munoz, of Spain, was the 2008 NCAA individual champion while at ASU. She was the LPGA Rookie of the Year in 2010. More>>
