$175,000 Raised to Bring Clean Water to Africa
On Monday, March 17, 2014 24 LPGA players joined amateurs at the exclusive Scottsdale National Golf Club for Golf Fore Africa’s 7th annual LPGA Pro-Am. The weather was fantastic and everyone thoroughly enjoyed playing golf with the LPGA pros on this beautiful course. The day started with a delicious luncheon and a few encouraging words from MC Paige Mackenzie, LPGA player and Golf Channel Guest Analyst. After the golf event players enjoyed a cocktail hour with Silent and Live Auctions followed by a delicious dinner provided by Bob Parsons and the Scottsdale National Golf Club. $175,000 was raised and these funds will be used to drill 25 wells in Africa because every child deserves clean water.
Golf Fore Africa, founded in 2007 by LPGA golfer Betsy King, is a Scottsdale, AZ based non-profit organization dedicated to bringing help and hope to children and women in Africa. LPGA players Stacy Lewis and Katherine Kirk are Golf Fore Africa board members and they both played in this event.
350 million people do not have access to clean water and without water there is no life. Providing a child with access to clean water, basic sanitation facilities, and hygiene education is one of the most effective ways to ensure his or her survival. More than 1600 children die every day from diarrhea caused by unsafe water. WASH interventions could prevent at least 40 percent of the deaths of children younger than 5 years old.
Golf Fore Africa is proud to partner with World Vision, the largest non-governmental provider of clean water in the world—reaching one new person with clean water every 30 seconds. In February Golf Fore Africa board member Debbie Quesada visited water projects in Mali and Niger where she saw the desperate conditions of people living without access to clean water. Golf Fore Africa has set a new goal to raise 1 Million dollars for water in 2014.
