Commissioner Whan plays the role of caddie

LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan caddied for Duramed FUTURES Tour player Lili Alvarez during the first round the Florida's Natural Charity Classic in Winter Haven, Florida. Alvarez is one of a record eight Mexican players on the Tour this year. Following the incredible success of LPGA pro Lorena Ochoa, the number of Mexican players looking to follow in her footsteps continues to increase. The Duramed FUTURES Tour will play its first international event in Mexico next week. Later this summer, Lili will be one of the contestants on the 13th season of Big Break on the Golf Channel.

On 18, Lili spotted Whan picking up a rake after her bunker shot, and later said in an interview: “I said to myself – Hold on a minute. You're the one who works for him, in one way or another! Why is he raking your bunker? So, I picked up the rake and I said – Let me do this for you. And he said, ‘No, no, this is part of the job.'”

Amidst the fun, high fives and fist bumps today, Whan chatted with his group, cleaned clubs, raked bunkers and thanked volunteers and fans for their support. Following the round, in an interview with Golf Channel, Whan joked: “Thankfully, Lili had a light bag and a light sense of humor.”

Tune into Golf Central on Golf Channel this Sunday at 6pm EST to catch some of the fun and hear Lili and Mike discuss their experience.
