My name is Cathryn Bristow and I have earned my conditional status on the LPGA Tour for 2010.
Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself. I'm from Auckland, New Zealand, a beautiful island nation in the South Pacific. I was introduced to golf by one of my brothers. Growing up with two older brothers meant I was forever trying to keep up and play new sports. Name a sport and I have probably played it. I started when I was 13 years old and I was instantly hooked to the game. I would spend many afternoons chipping and putting at the local golf course, competing against my brother for bragging rights.
After high school, I attended the University of Oregon on a golfing scholarship. I spent four years getting an education, traveling around the United States playing golf, making amazing friends, and creating memories of a lifetime. If any of you out there are thinking about going to college for golf, I encourage you to do so.
At the end of my time at college, I knew that I wanted to play golf professionally and my goal was to go through Q-School at the end of last year. I made it through to the final stage of Q-School in December. It was one of the toughest weeks of golf I have ever played. By the end of the week, I finished shooting +1 over the five rounds and one shot outside the top 20 spots that gained full status on the LPGA Tour for 2010.
At the time, I was very disappointed and it took me a few weeks to get over it.
Since then I have been home in New Zealand spending time with my family. I didn't touch my clubs for the first few weeks I was home, as I needed a break, which meant going camping at the beach for a few weeks with my family.
The break gave me time to reflect on what I had achieved and motivated me for 2010. Although I only had conditional status on the LPGA, it still meant that I would get a chance to play against the best players in the world at some point in 2010. I can't tell you when that will be, but hopefully when I do get the chance, I will be able to make the most of it.
When I'm not playing on the LPGA, I will be playing on the Duramed FUTURES Tour. This will be a great way to keep me in the competitive mode. I'm looking forward to this year and the new adventures it will bring.
Until next time, Happy golfing everyone!
