Second-year Symetra Tour player Jean Chua will be in her hometown of Kuala Lumpur this week to compete in the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. Chua will be included in the field of 72 on a sponsor’s exemption and will make her third-consecutive appearance in the event. Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club will play host this week while players will be competing for a $1.9 million purse and a $285,000 first-place prize.
Chua finished 53rd in 2010 and T69 a year ago and will be looking to carry over her consistent play from this season on the Symetra Tour. She finished the 2012 season ranked 15th on the final money list and earned herself and exemption to the final stage of LPGA Qualifying. Chua had five top-10 and six top 20 finishes and recorded a career-best runner-up and the Riviera Nayarit Classic in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.
“I’ve been working very hard and I feel much more comfortable about my game and I think I’m better prepared to handle the conditions at the KLGCC,” said Chua. “This is a world-class event and there are so many great players competing. It’s not going to be easy but I’m definitely going to give my best and hopefully give my fellow Malaysians something to cheer about.”
Rolex Rankings No. 4 and defending champion Na Yeon Choi headlines a stellar field which features 49 of the top 50 players on the 2012 LPGA Tour Official Money List. Choi returns to Malaysia defend her title after an outstanding finish in 2011 when she shot a final-round 68 and held off a Sunday charge from Yani Tseng to capture her fifth-career LPGA victory.
