Strong tournament field, new Eagle course also highlighted
NAPLES, FL (OCTOBER 2, 2012) - Top-ranked American player Stacy Lewis visited TwinEagles Country Club today as part of the CME Group Titleholders Media Day. The CME Group Titleholders, the culminating event of the LPGA season, will take place at TwinEagles November 15-18, 2012.
Tournament officials also highlighted other key features that will be part of this year's event including:
• BEST OF THE BEST: As the year-end event for the Tour, the CME Group Titleholders field is composed of the top three finishers from each official LPGA event. The top players in the world have qualified throughout the season, including Lewis, Rolex Rankings #1 Yani Tseng, Florida native Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie.
• LEWIS'S RISE TO THE TOP: Sitting second behind Tseng in the Rolex Rankings and second on the money list, Lewis has had an impressive season, winning three times on the Tour and finishing in the top ten 14 times. Tseng is the only other player to win three tournaments this season. Lewis's victories came at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic in April, the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June, and most recently, the Navistar Classic in September. Statistically, Lewis is leading the pack in a variety of key categories, with the most birdies, eagles and rounds in the 60's.
• NEW EAGLE COURSE: What is sure to become one of the most renowned courses in the area, the Eagle was completely overhauled by acclaimed architect Steve Smyers and is truly unlike any other in the region. Smyers crafted a course that incorporates many of the elements from the "Golden Age of Architecture," the period of construction prior to 1940 when iconic courses such as Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black and Augusta National were all built. Course features include thumbprint greens often well-protected with strategically placed bunkers and a focus on highlighting the natural landscape throughout all 18 holes.
