The pressure is on and solid rounds matter now more than ever as the Symetra Tour heads to Vidalia, Ga. this week for the second to last stop on the 2012 schedule.
Set to take place September 28-30th, the second annual Vidalia Championship will feature a 144-player field vying for a total purse of $110,000 and a first place prize of $16,500. A tournament cut will be made after 36 holes to the low 70 scores and ties.
Last year's winner, Sydnee Michaels, won the Vidalia Championship then won the season finale tournament in Albany to secure her LPGA Tour card for 2012. This year on the LPGA Tour, Michaels has posted two top-20 finishes including a season-best seventh at the Safeway Classic Presented by Coca-Cola.
Eleven out of the 13 winners so far this season will also be featured in the field in Charlotte. Megan McChrystal (Florida's Natural Charity Classic), Sara Brown (My Marsh Golf Classic), Lauren Doughtie (Ladies Titan Tire Challenge), Kristie Smith (Tate & Lyle Players Championship), Jenny Gleason (Northeast Delta Dental International), Victoria Elizabeth (Credit Union Classic), Jaclyn Sweeney (Credit Union Challenge), Julia Boland (Four Winds Invitational), Paola Moreno (Eagle Classic), Misun Cho (Challenge at Musket Ridge), and Mi Hyang Lee (Symetra Classic) all have victories in 2012 and will be playing for their second win of the season.
Players in the top 10 in the Volvik Race for the Card rankings who will be competing in Vidalia include No. 2 Victoria Elizabeth, No. 3 Paola Moreno, No. 4 Mi Hyang Lee, No. 5 Julia Boland, No. 6 Jenny Suh, No. 7 Jenny Gleason, No. 8 Nicole Smith, and No. 9 Sara Brown.
General admission for the tournament is $10 per day at the gate, $25 for all three. Kids 15 and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
