JACKSON, Mich., Aug. 11, 2013 – LPGA veteran Sherri Steinhauer held off Christa Johnson in a two-hole playoff to win the Wendy’s Charity Challenge today on The Legends Tour.

Steinhauer and Johnson matched 18-hole scores of 4-under 68 at the Country Club of Jackson and were forced to play two extra holes to decide the winner of this year’s seventh annual event.

The two returned to the 18th hole twice in the sudden-death playoff before Steinhauer won with a par on her 20th hole. It was the Wisconsin native’s second win on the Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA.

“It was just a real consistent, fun day out there today,” said Steinhauer, who carded four birdies in her bogey-free round.

The former U.S. Solheim Cup Team member and LPGA veteran collected the winner’s check for $16,000 in the one-round, 23-player tournament.

Sherri Turner, who won the tour’s previous Swing for the Cure tournament last month in Kenmore, Wash., finished third with a score of 3-under 69.

Lorie Kane and Barb Moxness tied for fourth at 2-under 70, while Jane Crafter finished sixth alone at one under 71.

Defending champion Barb Mucha tied for seventh at even-par 72 alongside Michigan native Cindy Figg-Currier, Allison Finney and Kris Tschetter.

All tournament proceeds from the event will benefit “Wendy’s Wonderful Kids” and the Dave Thomas Foundation for adoption.

Note: On Monday, Aug. 12, Canadian Lorie Kane will be featured in a special “Long Shot to Vegas” event 9:45 a.m., just before the tournament’s pro-am shotgun start. The fund-raising effort for the adoption charities gives a lucky winner a chance to win a trip for two to Las Vegas with airfare, a three-night hotel stay and show tickets.

Tickets for the special fund-raising event are available through Family Service and Children’s Aid of Jackson, and at St. Vincent Catholic Charities in Lansing, Mich.

Admission is free for the 10 a.m. Monday pro-am, but donations at the gate for the charity will be accepted.
