Race to the CME Globe kicks off this week
The inaugural Race to the CME Globe will officially kick off this week at the season-opening Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic. Players will accumulate points at each official LPGA event from the Bahamas through the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex. The Race to the CME Globe will then come to an exciting conclusion on Sunday at the newly renamed CME Group Tour Championship.

Two big purses and two big winner’s payouts will be on the line during the final day of the CME Group Tour Championship. The winner of the CME Group Tour Championship will take home a $500,000 first-place prize, while the player who has accumulated the most points in the season-long points competition will be announced as the Race to the CME Globe champion with a $1 million unofficial money payout – the largest in all of women’s golf.

A total of 500 points will be awarded to the winner of this week’s Pure-Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

Battle for No. 1 in the World begins
Rolex Rankings No.1 Inbee Park isn’t in the field this week at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic but that will only provide an opportunity for a few players who are trying to cut into her lead at the top.

Rolex Rankings No. 3 Stacy Lewis highlights this week’s field in the Bahamas and Lewis will try to cut into Park’s current lead for the top spot in the world. Lewis held the No. 1 spot in the rankings for four weeks last year following her win at the LPGA Founders Cup in March before Park overtook her. Park has held the No. 1 position for 41 weeks straight.

Watch out for the Rookies!
The start of the 2014 season means that another class of rookies is looking to make its impact on the LPGA Tour. Headlining this year’s rookie class is 16-year-old sensation Lydia Ko, who will enter the year more experienced than most rookies having already captured back-to-back victories on the LPGA Tour at the 2012 and the 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Open.

Joining Ko in this year’s rookie class is another teenage phenom, Jaye Marie Green. The 19-year-old won the 2013 LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament by 10 strokes in December as she shot a tournament-record 29-under-par at the 90-hole event to earn her Tour card. A total of 11 rookies will be in the field this week at the Pure-Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

Rain, rain stay away!
Last year’s Pure-Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic was hampered by a historic rainfall that dropped 12 inches of rain over an eight-hour span and left many of the holes on the Ocean Club Golf Course unplayable. In order for the players to still have a chance to complete the tournament, tournament officials shortened the format of the inaugural Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic to three 12-hole rounds that avoided the unplayable holes. But thankfully this year’s weather is looking much more promising with forecasts of mostly sunny skies or partly cloudy skies for the first three rounds of the event.

Which teams to watch?
The eight countries that will be competing at the inaugural International Crown in July have already been determined. But just which players will be competing for those countries in the first-of-its-kind, global match play competition won’t be known for certain until the completion of the 2014 Kia Classic. There will be some tight races for the final spots on each team, particularly for teams near the top like South Korea and the United States. Below are the standings based the Rolex Rankings that were released earlier today, January 20th.
