Ochoa Goes For Four-in-a-Row at Sybase Classic

Clifton, NJ - Reigning three-time Rolex Player of the Year Lorena Ochoa will return to the Tri-State area in hopes of earning her fourth straight title at the Sybase® Classic presented by ShopRite. The 20th annual LPGA Tour event will be held May 14 - 17 at historic Upper Montclair Country Club.

"Lorena exemplifies outstanding athleticism and generosity, and we are thrilled to have her back at the Sybase Classic," said Raj Nathan, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Sybase, Inc. "With the top female golfers from around the world trying to defeat her on a course which she has never lost, we expect a very exciting tournament."

Ochoa holds the No. 1 spot on the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, an honor she has had since early 2007. She battled the elements to win the 2008 Sybase Classic in a rain-shortened 54-hole tournament. Her 10-under-par score (68-67-71=206) was one stroke better than Morgan Pressel, Catriona Matthew, Brittany Lang, Na Yeon Choi and Sophie Gustafson.

Ochoa finished with seven victories and $2,763,193 earned in 2008. This year, she is already back to her winning ways, capturing the Honda LPGA Thailand in her first tournament of 2009.

Ochoa has had one of the most remarkable three-year runs in LPGA Tour history. In addition to three straight Rolex Player of the Year and Sybase Classic titles, she has won the Vare Trophy (lowest scoring average) three consecutive times, including last year with an average of 69.70. She also earned the Heather Farr Player Award given by the LPGA to the "LPGA Tour player who, through her hard work, dedication and love of the game of golf, has demonstrated determination, perseverance and spirit in fulfilling her goals as a player."

If Ochoa wins the 2009 Sybase Classic she will be the third person in LPGA Tour history to win the same tournament four consecutive times. She would also become the first golfer on any professional tour to win three consecutive tournaments at Upper Montclair.

"We are extremely happy to have Lorena back to defend her title on Upper Montclair, the site of her brilliant play and dramatic finishes the past two years. She will be gunning hard for her fourth title against an elite field of competition. Her return to the tournament is a sign of good things to come for the Sybase Classic and the northern New Jersey community."

Ticket, sponsorship and volunteer information is available at www.sybaseclassic.com. Those 15 and under are admitted free all week with a ticketed adult.
