In 31 years as an LPGA event, the LPGA Corning Classic has awarded more than $17.8 million in prize money and generated more than $400 million in positive economic impact in the area. A total of 37,000 people volunteered at the tournament and more than $5.3 million has been raised for charity. In 31 events, the LPGA Corning Classic has featured 29 different winners with only two repeat champs: Rosie Jones (1996-97) and Betsy King (1991, 2000). In first tournament purse in 1979 was $100,000 with a $15,000 first-place check. Last week's purse was $1.5 million with champion Yani Tseng receiving $225,000.
This is the first year for the event.
