University of Arkansas Sophomore to play in official LPGA Tour event
ROGERS, Ark. – The World’s No. 8-ranked Women’s Amateur Golfer and University of Arkansas sophomore Emily Tubert received a sponsor exemption today into the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. The official LPGA Tour event returns to Pinnacle Country Club, Sept. 5-11 in Rogers for the fifth consecutive year.
Tubert, a California native, is coming off an impressive freshman season where she set new school records with the best-ever finish for a freshman at the NCAA Championship, ending tied for 19th, and carded the lowest round throughout the season with a 63.
“Emily is one of the premier amateur golfers in the world and she experienced much success at the collegiate level in only her first season,” said David Shoemaker, Tournament Director. “We are excited to offer her the opportunity to compete among the best female golfers in the world.”
“It is such an honor to be selected to compete in this amazing event,” said Tubert about her selection. “I am especially honored to be a part of the tradition of including players from the University of Arkansas. I went and watched the tournament last year and was so impressed by all of the support of the community. The Calling of the Hogs on 17 gave me goose bumps.”
As a First Team All-American and SEC Co-Freshman of the Year, Tubert led the team in several categories including average score (72.16), most rounds scored in the 60s (10), and total tournament wins (3). Of the 12 tournaments played last season, Tubert finished first among her Razorback teammates eight times.
This week, Tubert is defending her title at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, OR. The Golf Channel will be televising the event with the round of 16 and quarterfinals airing on Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (EDT). The semifinal matches will air from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (EDT) July 1st while the championship matches will air from 4-6 p.m. (EDT) on July 2nd.
