STRONGEST FIELD IN EVENT HISTORY TO COMPETE AT WALMART NW ARKANSAS CHAMPIONSHIP
Back-to-Back U.S. Amateur Champion Kang to Make Professional Debut
ROGERS, Ark. – The final field for the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G is set and tournament officials have announced it the strongest field in the event’s history. Tournament officials have also announced that back-to-back U.S. Amateur Champion Danielle Kang will make her professional debut as the final sponsor exemption when the event returns September 5 – 11 to Pinnacle Country Club.
“We are excited to have the strongest field in the event’s history and one of the strongest fields at any LPGA event this year,” said David Shoemaker, Tournament Director. “We believe this will be a great opportunity for Danielle to display her skill as a professional and for fans to see this young talent compete against the best female golfers in the world.”
Kang, a Westlake Village, CA native, has compiled a stellar record as an amateur, most recently earning back-to-back U.S. Amateur victories, beating Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn in the 36-hole final in rainy and windy conditions at Rhode Island Country Club. Kang has also made the cut in four LPGA Tour majors as an amateur, her best finish coming at this year’s Ricoh Women’s British Open, where she earned low amateur honors.
“Playing in my first LPGA event as a professional is a dream come true,” said Kang. “I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me, but this is a very exciting place to start. I have looked up to so many players on the LPGA Tour, and it will be an honor to play alongside them.”
Kang will be joined by defending champion and current Rolex World Golf Rankings No. 1 Yani Tseng followed by Suzann Pettersen and Cristie Kerr, ranked No. 2 and 3 respectively. Kerr will be joined by fellow U.S. Solheim Cup teammates Juli Inkster, Angela Stanford, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lincicome, Brittany Lang, and Christina Kim, as well as newcomers Stacy Lewis, Vicky Hurst and Ryann O’Toole.
Team Europe will also be represented as Pettersen will be joined by Christel Boeljon, Laura Davies, Sandra Gal, Sophie Gustafson, Catriona Matthew, Azahara Mũnoz, Anna Nordqvist, and Karen Stupples.
Sun Ju Ahn, a professional who plays exclusively on the Korean LPGA Tour, is the only player ranked in the World’s top-15 who will not be in the field.
