Ryu picked up the game of golf in the second grade as part of her school's extra curricular activities. An avid violinist at a young age, Ryu enjoys music.

Career

  • Ryu defeated Hee Kyung Seo in a three-hole playoff at the 2011 U.S. Women's Open to earn her first LPGA Tour victory and her LPGA Tour card for the 2012 season. Ryu is a six-time winner on the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) where she was a rookie in 2008.

    Amateur
    As an amateur, Ryu was a member of the Korean National Golf Team from 2005-2007 and she won a gold medal for Korea, both in individual and team events, in the 2006 Asian Games that were played in Doha, Qatar.
