Gotta have faith: Where Piller found her Sunday strength

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Gerina Piller found inspiration in her yardage book throughout her improbable charge up the leaderboard Sunday at the Wegmans LPGA Championship.
She found it in her husband’s handwriting.
“I actually had my husband write a bunch of bible verses in my yardage book,” Piller said. “I just kept reminding myself there are bigger things out there. Having my husband here, I just can’t find words to explain it.”
Piller broke into tears outside the scoring hut recounting how she nearly shocked the world of women’s golf with her against-the-odds run at winning at Locust Hill. More>>
Former Miner Earns LPGA Tour Card
Former UTEP standout Gerina Mendoza earned her LPGA card after finishing fifth on the Duramed FUTURES Tour's season money list. Mendoza received the No. 5 LPGA card for a full membership on the 2011 LPGA Tour. More>>
Mendoza Piller returns to Roswell for Sun Country Classic

It’s been a while since the Rotary Desert Sun Golf Classic has included women in the competition, but this year one woman will challenge the pros, hoping to bring home the title.
Gerina Mendoza Piller is back in Roswell during a break on the LPGA tour. The Goddard High grad has spent three years as a pro on the LPGA Futures Tour, and after finishing fifth overall on the money list last year, earned full LPGA status this year. More>>

Gerina Piller appears as a guest on The Golf Channel Big Break Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas. First broadcast was June 11, 2012. These are the highlights with Gerina, an LPGA Tour Player, who appeared on the Big Break Prince Edward's Island in 2009. Gerina is married to PGA Tour Player Martin Piller. Mendoza Wins C-USA Title, Named League Player of the Year
UTEP senior Gerina Mendoza became only the second player in UTEP golf history to win a conference individual title on Wednesday. Mendoza shot a nine-under-par 207 (68-68-71) to capture medalist honors at the 2007 Conference USA Championship in Birmingham, Ala.
Mendoza is UTEP's first conference individual champion in women's golf. Paul Stankowski finished first at the Western Athletic Conference Championship in 1990.
A native of Roswell, N.M., Mendoza was also named Conference USA Player of the Year and first team All-Conference USA on Wednesday. She has a league-leading 72.8 stroke average in 10 tournaments this season. Her 207 at the C-USA Championship tied her career-low score. She has finished first at four tournaments this season, including the ORU Shootout (Tulsa, Okla.), Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational (Honolulu, Hawaii/lost in a playoff) and the Arkansas-Little Rock Classic (Hot Springs, Ark.).
