First 1,200 Spectators receive WM golf towel upon entry
NAPLES, Fla. – CME Group Tour Championship officials have announced that Thursday, November 19 at the LPGA Tour’s season-ending event will be designated as Waste Management Go Green Day, and the first 1,200 spectators to enter the grounds will receive a golf towel courtesy of Waste Management Inc. of Florida. The tournament takes place at Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort November 17 – 22.
Go Green Day is designed to promote and educate the community on recycling and the proper way to do so. “Working together, we can do more to recycle right at home, work and special events like the CMG Group Tour Championship to reduce the contamination in our recycling carts. In addition to protecting our natural resources, recycling right will help ensure waste collection services remain economically feasible,” said Larry Berg, Sr. District Manager of Waste Management Inc. of Florida.
With the help of Waste Management, the CME Group Tour Championship plans to increase its recycling by 30% at this year’s event through additional education and onsite recycling stations. Waste Management will be providing staff, volunteers and vendors a training session on local recycling requirements. There will also be educational signage to remind spectators to look for recycling containers for their beverage bottles throughout the venue.
Waste Management Inc. of Florida has committed to a multi-year educational campaign to keep teaching residents the importance of recycling correctly. Nearly a year ago, the firm launched a website www.CollierRecyclesRight.com, as a resource for Collier County residents to learn how to recycle right at home and properly reuse common items such as hangers and plastic bags, that should not be placed in their yellow-lidded recycling cart.
A recycling gap remains when it comes to common items like plastic bottles, aluminum cans and newspapers. While Collier County residents boast a high recycling participation rate, they follow the national average in recycling only 1 out of every 3 beverage containers and only 65% of printed newspapers. With the help of Waste Management Go Green Day, the CME Group Tour Championships hopes to contribute to cleaner, greener environment by encouraging residents to recycle often and recycle right.
