75 of the top players in the world make up the field at this week's Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. There are some exciting groups to keep an eye on during the opening round, including a reunion of former champions and Solheim Cup stars.
Groups To Watch:
First Tee - 8:28am – Paula Creamer, Melissa Reid and Lizette Salas
In a take two from the Solheim Cup, Paula Creamer, Melissa Reid and Lizette Salas will be grouped together to start the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. These three did not meet during the Solheim Cup matches, so how they’ll fair when grouped together remains to be seen. Creamer’s best finish in Malaysia came in a T-6 in 2012, the same year Salas finished T-9. Reid hasn’t teed it up in this event since 2011, when she finished T-18.
First Tee – 8:50am – Brittany Lang, Alison Lee and Caroline Masson
Another reunion of Solheim Cup competitors, Brittany Lang, Alison Lee and Caroline Masson are grouped together, teeing off at 8:50am in round one. Lang posted a tie for fifth in Malaysia in 2011, the same year Masson posted her best finish in the event with a tie for eighth. Lee is making her debut this week at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, coming off her best major finish of the season in a T-6 at the Evian Championship.
First Tee – 9:43am – Shanshan Feng, Inbee Park and Lexi Thompson
The past three winners of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia will tee it up together Thursday. Defending champion Shanshan Feng joins 2012 champ Inbee Park and 2011 winner Lexi Thompson. Park did not play in this event last year and Thompson finished T-41.
First Tee – 9:45am – Lydia Ko, Minjee Lee and Michelle Wie
World No.2 Lydia Ko returns to action after winning back-to-back events at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and Evian Championship. Ko finished T-8 in her debut in 2014. During the first round she will tee it up alongside rookie Minjee Lee who makes her first start in Malaysia this week and Michelle Wie who is playing in Malaysia for the first time since 2013.
